What does an inspection report have to say?
What was tested, one by one, at what time and with what result. If the report does not say which detector was tested, it was not tested.
An intruder inspection done properly means walking in front of every detector and checking that the alert gets all the way to the end of the chain: the panel, the receiver at the alarm receiving centre and the phone of whoever has to find out. That takes time, and that is why it is the first thing to disappear. What often gets invoiced is something else: a visit where the panel is looked at, it is confirmed that there are no faults on the screen and a sheet is signed. The panel does not know that the detector at the back has been covered by a pallet since March; the person who walks in front of it knows that.
Besides the walk round, the report should cover the state of the batteries and the power supply, the transmission test on each path, which zones were isolated and why, and the anomalies with the date they were corrected. With that in hand the client can check they have been given what they have been charged for, and that goes for the years when we are the ones doing it too.
