And if I do not have the passwords to my own system?
It is more common than it looks, and it can be fixed, though not always cheaply. The first thing is the orderly route: ask the previous installer for them, because the system belongs to the client and so do the administrator passwords.
If they do not turn up, depending on the device you can recover access with the manufacturer's procedure, which almost always requires proof of ownership and sometimes means losing the configuration. Cameras can be returned to factory settings one by one, which is work but not a disaster; an intruder control panel or a server with years of configuration inside is another matter, and sometimes the way out is to replace it.
When it is sorted out, the passwords are held in the client's name and kept in the client's password manager, with named accounts for people. A maintenance contract whose only guarantee is that only the supplier has the key is not a service: it is a locked door.
