What happens if the technician who knows my installation leaves the company?
Nothing should happen to you, and that is exactly why we document the way we document. There is a very widespread way of tying a client in in this trade, and it is to leave nothing written down: the passwords are held by the technician who built it, the network diagram is in his head and nobody wrote down why the rules were set up that way. That client is not satisfied, he is trapped.
What gets handed over is the opposite: the diagram of what is there and how it is connected, which camera covers which zone and with what limits, the active rules and who they alert, the retention times configured and how much they take up, the users and what each one can do, and the passwords, which are yours.
That means another technician here can pick up your installation without starting from scratch — and also that you can change supplier, including changing us. That is the right price to pay: we would rather you stayed because the system works than because leaving is too expensive.
