What exactly happens when it goes off at three in the morning?
The panel sends the signal over its main path; the receiving centre takes it, looks at which zone it is and what instructions it has written down for that installation, and verifies — with the image, with the audio, or by waiting to see whether a second zone fires inside the confirmation window.
If the alert is dismissed, it is logged and wakes nobody, which is a result too. If it is confirmed, the receiving centre passes it to the State security forces, rings the contacts in the agreed order and, if it has been contracted, sends a guard to check it on the ground.
What decides whether all that works is not visible that night: it is the written protocol, the up-to-date contact list and the fact that the transmission path was supervised. An alert that never arrived because the line had been down for weeks is the quietest fault in this trade and the one we have come across most often.
