Rust Neural

Things break slowly. And nobody is watching.

Rust Neural watches the condition of machines and installations: leaks, corrosion, wear, valves and pressure gauges. Slow changes that set off no alarm.

The fault started three weeks ago.

A small drip, a mesh working loose, a pressure gauge needle dropping two points a month. None of those things sets off an alarm, because no system is programmed to notice that something is changing slowly.

The technician's round happens every fortnight, with a sheet of paper, and covers what there is time to cover. What happens between one round and the next, nobody sees — and that is where almost every expensive fault begins.

By the time the real alarm goes off, it is no longer maintenance: it is a shutdown.

Comparing today with last month.

The camera is fixed, so today's image and the one from a month ago are the same field of view. That lets you see what the eye misses: the stain has grown, the needle is lower, the anchor has shifted.

And for what really is immediate — a spill, a leak, a light going out — the alert goes out straight away, with the image of what caused it.

The fortnightly round still happens. What changes is that it arrives knowing where to look.

What it understands.

  • Leaks and spills of liquid or gas, and how they grow over time.
  • Pressure gauge readings and valve position: open, closed, halfway.
  • Corrosion, wear and cracks that advance between one inspection and the next.
  • Anchors, containment mesh and structural components that shift.
  • Machines actually running: blades turning, lights coming on.
  • Water, material and waste levels in tanks and containers.

What it does not do.

It does not replace a pressure sensor or a flow meter. If the reading has to be exact and traceable, fit the instrument. This covers what has no instrument today, because fitting one everywhere does not pay.

And it needs the camera to stay still. A camera that pans, or that somebody repositions, can no longer compare with last week.

What it takes.

  • A FIXED camera. If somebody moves it, or it pans on its own, the comparison with last week is lost.
  • The item to be watched inside the field of view and at a size where the change shows.
  • For reading a pressure gauge, the dial face on and without reflections.
