And audio verification?
It is the same thing with sound: when the alarm goes off, the alarm receiving centre can listen to what is happening inside the premises and, on equipment set up for it, speak through a loudspeaker.
It fits where video does not reach or is not appropriate: large warehouses in the dark, areas where putting cameras in would be disproportionate, or as reinforcement when the image clarifies nothing. And it has an effect the image does not: whoever is inside knows they have been spotted and often just leaves, which is the best possible ending for an alert.
The delicate part is legal. Listening to premises is processing personal data and can affect the privacy of workers and of third parties, so it is only activated with the alarm triggered, people are told it exists and it is not left as permanent listening. If somebody offers it as listen whenever you like, there is a legal problem there before a technical one.
