What has to go in an inspection report?
What has been inspected, point by point and device by device; what was in order; what was corrected during the visit; what has to be repaired now and with what material; and what will have to be changed next year. With a date, with the name of whoever did it and signed.
What is not a report: a sheet of paper saying «installation inspected, correct». It is the commonest trick in the trade and we find it often in installations that come to us, with years of maintenance invoices behind them.
The report is also good for two things beyond the inspection: for budgeting next year with no surprises and for being able to prove to an insurer or an inspection that the installation was maintained.
