What is a duress code?
A different code that disarms the system perfectly normally as far as whoever is watching is concerned, and at the same time sends a silent alert to the receiving centre saying it is being disarmed under threat.
It is only any use if what is around it has been prepared. The receiving centre has to have it written down that the alert is a duress one and what it does with it —not ring the phone at the premises, notify the State security forces directly—, and the people who can use it have to know it and have gone over it. A duress code that is configured and not explained is used by nobody on the day it matters.
And the limit has to be said: it is a tool for raising the alarm and buying time, not a protection. The instruction given is always the same: cooperate, do not resist, and use the code only if it can be done without drawing attention.
