What is anti-masking and why does it matter?
It is a detector inside the detector, watching whether somebody covers it, paints its lens or puts something in front of it, and reporting that as a fault instead of going blind in silence.
It matters because the discreet way to disable an alarm is not cutting a cable, which shows: it is leaving a detector blind during the day, when the system is disarmed and there are people coming and going, and coming back at night. Without anti-masking that zone shows as quiet on the screen and is not protected.
The standard requires it from certain grades upwards, and in practice two more things are needed. That the alert leaves the panel and reaches a person: in many installations it stays as a small local warning nobody looks at. And that the repeated fault gets investigated instead of silenced — a detector that reports masking every morning at the same time is not faulty, it is that something gets parked in front of it at that time.
