Can I connect the alarm only to my phone and save myself the receiving centre?
You can, if your activity is not one of those required to, and it is worth knowing what you lose: nobody is obliged to verify, there is no passing it on to the State security forces and there is nobody awake when you are asleep, driving or away.
In practice it works as long as somebody looks at the phone. The first week everything gets looked at; by the third, after two night alerts that were nothing, the phone goes on silent. It happens the same in a home as in a company, and it is not a lack of discipline: it is what anybody does. The alarm receiving centre is not just a service, it is the part of the system that does not get tired.
There is a reasonable middle ground in small installations: the app for the day to day and the connection to the receiving centre limited to the times and the areas where there really is nobody. What does not work is counting on the app as if it were a response.

A written answer is enough to decide whether it interests you. To know whether it works at your site you have to see it on a real scene, with the image as it is and, on top of it, what the system understands from it. That is on the IRIS Neural website, which is the group's product.
