Can it be set and unset on a schedule?
Yes, and it is useful above all for what people forget, which is arming. An automatic arming at a set hour, with a warning beforehand on the keypads and the option of delaying it from inside, closes the hole of the nights when nobody remembered.
What has to be set up carefully is the arming failure. If at the set hour there is a door open or a zone in alarm, the system cannot arm, and that has to generate an alert that reaches somebody real. If it stays as a message on the panel screen, the building spends the night open and nobody knows until the next morning.
Automatic disarming is another conversation and it is worth thinking twice about: it means the building is left unprotected at a fixed hour whether anybody has arrived or not. It is almost always better for people to disarm on the way in and for the system to alert you if it is still armed by mid-morning, which is a sign that nobody opened up that day.
