How far does a network cable reach, and what do I do if I come up short?
A copper run works well up to about a hundred metres, and those hundred metres include what climbs the pole and what loops round inside the cabinet, which is always more than the drawing measures. Beyond that it does not stretch: either you put in an intermediate cabinet with its own switch, or you go to fibre.
Extenders are the third route and they have their place: they stretch the run at the cost of putting one more device in the path, almost always with no way of administering it and often powered from the cable itself, which takes power away from the camera at the far end. They are for solving one odd point that ended up thirty metres short. Not for building the network out of them.
And when the power travels down that cable too, distance matters even more, because the voltage drops with length. A run that gives perfect data may not give enough watts.
