What is dual path and how far does it protect me?
Two independent paths for the same alert, typically fixed line and mobile network, so that if one goes down the alert leaves by the other and a technical alert is also generated to say one has gone down.
The key is in that second part: dual path without supervising both is half a dual path. What you have to ask is how often each path is checked and what happens when one fails — whether that generates an alert that reaches a person or whether it stays on the panel. And it is worth checking that they are genuinely independent: two services going out through the same router and the same cable are not two paths, they are one with two names.
How far it protects: against the line being cut, against the provider going down and against a good part of the interference. It does not protect against the panel running out of power and battery, nor against nobody looking at the technical alerts. Those two are the usual ways for a system with a dual path to arrive mute on the day it was needed.
