What is dual technology and when is it worth it?
A detector with two different sensors inside, normally a passive infrared and a microwave, that only gives the alert when both see the same thing at the same time.
It is worth it where there are many alerts of thermal origin, because what fools the infrared almost never fools the microwave. And it has a price that has to be stated: requiring two things to coincide lowers the sensitivity somewhat, so where you have to detect first time and with no margin it is not always the right choice. It is a decision per zone, not a general setting for the system.
And one very specific trap: microwave goes through plasterboard, glass and light doors. A dual-technology detector facing a plasterboard partition sees what is happening behind it, and behind it there may be a forklift working at night. It is corrected by trimming the range of the microwave or by moving the detector, never by lowering the general sensitivity of the system.
