IRIS Neural. The one we make.
An NVMS: a video management system that also understands what is going on in the scene. It is the first on this list and it is ours, and both of those things have to be said together.
First of all, the disclosure.
A warning, and it goes first: IRIS Neural is a product of Infinity Neural, the other company in Upon Group. It heads this list and it is ours, so read it knowing that. With the rest we are integrators; with this one we are also the people who make it.
We say it because the rest of this catalogue is worth nothing if we keep quiet here. A list of twenty platforms where the first one is yours and does not say so is an advert shaped like a comparison, and anyone who works that out stops believing the other nineteen too.
What it is, and how it differs from a VMS.
A classic VMS solved recording, and solved it well: it stores the video, it orders it and it lets you go back to it. For twenty years that was the job. What changed was not the VMS, it was the number of cameras: when you go from twelve to six hundred, storing stops being the problem and watching becomes the problem.
IRIS starts where the VMS stops. It reads what is in the image —objects, zones, times, context—, applies the rules your organisation has written and turns the video into two things that never used to come out of it: alerts when something happens, and numbers when nothing does.
That is why it is called an NVMS and not a VMS with analytics. The difference is not that it comes with detections: it is that understanding the scene sits at the centre of the system and is not hung off one side of it.
What usually decides it.
- It works without internet. It is deployed entirely inside the installation: the video, the models, the searches and the rules run there and do not leave. For a lot of people this is the first question and the last one.
- It does not force you to change the cameras. It uses the video that is already there when the integration allows it. And when a camera is not up to what you want, we say so on the visit.
- The rules are written by the organisation. What deserves an alert at four in the morning is known by whoever knows the operation; IRIS automates applying them without getting tired.
- It lives alongside the VMS that is already installed. It can be the whole system or sit next to the one you have, and that gets decided after looking at the camera network, not before.
- People counting is certified by the Centro Español de Metrología (the Spanish metrology institute). It is the only part measured by an outside body, and it covers that and nothing else: the counting, not the whole product.
Who it fits, and who it does not.
The same section the other nineteen carry, and here with more reason.
It fits when there are a lot of cameras and few people watching them, when the video has to give numbers as well as alerts, and when the installation cannot depend on an internet line.
It does not fit —and we say so even though it is ours— when what you need is one specific case tuned to the last detail in a single scene. That is the other thing Infinity does, made to measure, and it reaches an accuracy in THAT case that a system covering the whole installation cannot reach. It is not a limitation of IRIS: it is what covering a lot means.
It does not fit either if the shift is going to carry on watching the same screens as yesterday. A system that alerts someone who is not going to act is money spent for nothing.
What we do with it.
Here WestPoint does what it always does —the project, the network, the hardware, the cameras and the maintenance— and on top of that something happens that does not happen with the other nineteen: whoever decides the height of the pole and whoever writes the model that looks at that image work in the same house. When a camera is not up to what is needed, the conversation is between two desks and not between two suppliers.
And support does not go through a channel: if something in the system does not do what it should, it gets fixed in the product.
