I already have an engineering firm and an architect, do you tread on each other?
No, if it is divided up properly from the start. The engineering firm or the architect handle the building as a whole and the coordination of all the services; we handle the detail of the electronic security, which is a trade with decisions of its own that do not fit into a building project. The normal thing is for them to set the scope and the conditions and for us to develop the detail, or for us to review what is already written.
The friction always turns up in the same three places, and it gets closed in one meeting: who defines what has to be achieved at each point, who signs what, and who has the last word when the security detail clashes with another service. Better decided at the start than in the corridor on the sixth storey with the ceilings half closed.
And when the project comes already written, we say what does not add up for us and why before quoting. Keeping quiet and installing what the paper says is more comfortable and leaves the problem in the client's house.
