Can I take cameras over a radio link?
Yes, and sometimes it is the only reasonable option: an industrial unit on the other side of a road, a plot with no ducting, a temporary site, a point where digging a trench costs more than the whole security system put together.
What you have to accept is that a radio link is a section with less capacity than a cable, and with a capacity that varies as well. The figure the manufacturer advertises is the one for ideal conditions, so it is sized with a wide margin over the real throughput, with the video prioritised and having decided what gets sacrificed when it rains: dropping frames rather than losing the recording.
And the combination that works best nearly always is to record at the remote end and send over radio only what has to be watched. That way a break in the link is a window that closes for a while, not a hole in the recording.
