Can I add cameras to a system that was sized three years ago?
It depends on four things, and all four get checked before buying the camera: whether there are spare licences, whether the software supports that model and that version, whether there is power and ports left on the switch that is going to feed it, and whether the storage can take more throughput.
The fourth is the one that surprises people most and gets forgotten most often: every new camera takes recording days away from all the others. Adding six cameras to a system that kept thirty days does not leave thirty days for the new ones and thirty for the old ones: it leaves fewer for all of them. The sum is redone and the number is given before anything goes up.
And there is an honest limit. When the system is at the edge on all four things at once, extending costs more than renewing the central part, and that gets said before selling three cameras that are going to work badly.
