What happens when the power comes back?
It is the moment when most things break, and almost nobody tests it. Everything starts at once: the startup surge of the drives and of the switches feeding cameras can exceed what the line or the backup unit itself gives, and the system ends up half switched on.
Then there is the order. If the server starts before the storage, it may not find its drives; if it starts before the network, it may end up not seeing the cameras and never try again. That is solved with a staggered startup and with every device coming back on its own, without anybody having to go and press a button that is behind a locked door as well.
The test is simple and has to be done at least once: cut the main power at an agreed moment, watch how long everything takes to come back, what does not come back on its own and whether recording is missing for those minutes. What has not been tested is not known.
