What do you need from the building work, and when?
Routes and space, and decided early. Containment and wall penetrations with the size that was asked for and not the one that fitted, service risers with accessible inspection hatches, plant rooms with room for the cabinets and with ventilation, mains power at the planned points and with the agreed backup power, and fixings on façades or poles where they belong. Almost all of that has to be asked for before the ceilings are closed.
The list goes in writing and with dates, because these are requests carried out months before the first camera turns up. A cable route that was not left costs a chase in a finished wall; a plant room with no ventilation costs a device that shuts down in August, and it always shuts down on the same day of the year.
And there is one request almost nobody makes that saves arguments: spare capacity. An empty duct alongside every route and free space in the cabinets costs little during the building work and is the difference between an extension and a refurbishment.
