The image has gone blurry over the years. Has the camera broken?
It is usually one of three things, and none of them is the sensor wearing out. The first is the focus, which drifts with the cycles of heat and cold and with vibration: it is corrected by refocusing, on many devices from the browser without going up there. The second is the dome, scratched or yellowed by the sun, which blurs the whole image and is solved by changing it. The third is the filter the camera swings between day and night, which can stick halfway and leave the image murky and the colours odd.
There is a clue that tells them apart: if it only happens at night, look at the dome and the infrared; if it happens at all hours and evenly, look at the focus; if the image is fine but the colours are strange, look at the filter. And if only part of the field of view is blurred, it is nearly always dirt or a cobweb stuck to the glass.
This is exactly what a maintenance inspection has to check. A visit that does not include looking again at what each camera sees and comparing it with what it saw on handover day is not inspecting anything.
