Does the server need a graphics card?
For recording, no. For showing many tiled views at once, it helps a good deal and takes load off the processor. And for analysing the video —recognising number plates, classifying objects, counting people— it is the part that does the work: that is not fixed with more of the same kind of processor.
The important decision is not today's, it is the one two years from now. A chassis with physical room, enough power supply and airflow for a card costs very little more to buy and saves changing the whole server the day somebody wants to analyse the video. Infinity Neural is in the same house, so we always ask the question, even though the answer is often no.
And if one goes in, two sums have to be redone: the backup unit, because it draws power, and the cabinet, because it gets hot.
