Do the switches have to be managed?
On the part where the video lives, in practice yes. Separating networks, seeing how much traffic goes through each port, shutting a port down remotely, putting the video ahead of the backup and controlling multicast traffic are things you can only do on a switch that is administered.
An unmanaged one is a box that shares things out and tells you nothing. It works, and the day there is a problem there is nowhere to start looking: you do not know which port is dropping, nor how much power is left, nor since when it has been happening.
That said, managed does not mean expensive or complicated, it means somebody has to configure it and document it. A managed switch left on its factory configuration is a more expensive unmanaged switch.
