Is the configuration backed up or only the video?
The configuration, always, and it is what is missing most often. Losing video hurts; losing the configuration forces you to rebuild the whole installation by trial and error, with the system down and no way of knowing whether what you are putting in is what was there.
What gets backed up: the video system database with its cameras, users, recording rules and maps; the configuration of the switches and the firewall; that of the intruder panel; that of the access control with its cards and permissions, which is the most expensive to redo; the licences, and the network addressing plan.
And a backup is only any good once you have tried restoring it, on a different machine and every now and then. With the documentation and the backup, a new machine is up in a day; without them, it goes in by trial and error.
