How do you size the processor of a video server?

By what has to be decompressed at once, not by how many cameras are connected. Recording is copying to the drive what arrives and costs little; displaying means decompressing each video, and that is where the machine gets used up.

An example of how the peak is counted: a sixteen-camera mosaic open at the same time by three people is forty-eight videos decompressing at once. That is the number you have to size for, even if it happens twice a year, because one of those two times is the day something has happened.

That is why a server chosen well for recording chokes on the opening day. And that is why you leave headroom: a machine running at the limit on the day of handover has no room for what is going to be added, and something is always added.

A written answer is enough to decide whether it interests you. To know whether it works at your site you have to see it on a real scene, with the image as it is and, on top of it, what the system understands from it. That is on the IRIS Neural website, which is the group's product.
