How many years does a camera last?
As a device, quite a few: a well-powered indoor camera lasts many years without giving trouble. What usually decides the replacement is not the fault, it is three other things: the manufacturer stopping publishing updates so the device is left with no security patches; the new video software no longer recognising it fully; or what is asked of that image having changed.
The ones that do die earlier are the outdoor ones with moving parts and the ones with heaters, because they have motors, fans and seals that wear. And the ones in a harsh environment —the coast, chemical industry, kitchens— where what fails is the housing and the screws before the electronics.
That is why, when buying, the useful question is not how long it lasts, but how long this manufacturer is going to go on publishing firmware for this model and how long the same model can go on being bought to extend the system. A camera estate you can extend with the same equipment two years later gets maintained; one you cannot gets rebuilt.
