How long can I keep the record of entries and exits?
As long as you can justify, because there is no general period set by law for the access log. What GDPR does require is that you decide that period, write it down and stick to it, instead of keeping everything just in case.
In practice it is set in the record of processing activities, with the purpose next to it —investigating incidents, meeting a client requirement, answering an audit— and automatic deletion is configured in the system. A period written in a document that the software does not apply is not a period: it is an intention.
Two warnings. There are regulated activities —critical installations, the pharmaceutical industry, ports, certain specifications and public contracts— that impose their own period, and that one governs over whatever you decide. And the video attached to an access has its own rule, a shorter one: LOPDGDD sets one month for video surveillance images with the exceptions the regulation itself lays down. They are two different periods and they do not infect each other.
