Do cameras work better with a fixed IP or with DHCP?
With a stable address, always: either fixed, set on the camera, or reserved on the DHCP server by the device's physical address. What must not happen is that the addresses hand themselves out and change.
One power cut is enough for two cameras to swap places. The images keep arriving and everything looks right, but what the recorder is saving as the loading bay is the changing room. It gets found out months later, while looking for something else, and by then there are weeks of badly labelled recording.
On large installations DHCP reservation has a clear advantage: the list lives in one place and not spread across two hundred devices. Either way, the addressing plan is written down and handed over: which camera, which address, which port of which switch it is plugged into.
