Who administers the system when you finish?
The day to day belongs to your people: users, permissions, schedules, looking up recordings, reports. That is what the training is for and that is why the passwords are handed over. Anything that touches the configuration —control panel programming, rules, firmware updates, extensions— is better handled by somebody who can answer for it.
That second part can be agreed in three ways, and all three are legitimate: the client runs it if they have their own technical team, we run it under the maintenance contract, or a mix, with a written split of what each side may touch. What does not work is not deciding, because then everybody touches it and nobody writes it down.
Whichever way it is decided, changes have to be recorded. Half the odd faults on a system that has been running for years are configuration changes nobody documented.
