Is a CO detector any use? Is it the same one as in the car park?
They are two different devices with the same name. The fire carbon monoxide detector, to part 26 of UNE-EN 54, warns of the CO given off by an incipient combustion, which appears before visible smoke in slow fires in solid material; it is used in hotel rooms, care homes and areas where an early warning matters and there is a risk of false alarms from steam. The CO detector in a car park measures the ambient concentration in order to start the fans and prevent poisoning from exhaust fumes: it is a ventilation installation and it is not part of the fire system.
Connecting the second one to the fire alarm panel is a mistake you see often. They measure different thresholds, they respond to different phenomena and they have a different maintenance regime. When the car park ventilation has to start on a fire signal, that is solved with an interlock from the panel, not by sharing detectors.
The fire one rarely goes on its own: the usual thing is for CO to be one of the sensors in a multi-criteria detector, precisely to gain time without buying false alarms.
