Can I join the video system up with the access control?
Yes, and it is the integration most asked for because it solves a daily manual job: every pass through a door is tied to the images of that door at that time, and reconstructing an incident stops being a matter of cross-checking two lists on different clocks. It also allows the reverse: from the video, opening the door you are looking at.
There are three ways of getting it and they do not give the same result. A system from the same manufacturer that carries both things inside it, where the event is a single one. An integration written by one of the two manufacturers for the other, which is the most common and usually covers events and associated video. Or the basic link by volt-free contact and generic protocols, which triggers the recording and little else.
What always has to be done, whichever route it is, is to try it on a test rig with the particular versions before promising it. An integration the manufacturer calls native still takes work, and there are functions that appear on the list and only exist from a certain version onwards. And there is one thing to set on day one: the time. Both systems against the same time reference, or the events and the images will not match.
