What happens if the inspections are not done?
Three things, and none of them turns up on the day. The first is administrative: failing to carry out the compulsory maintenance is an offence in industry matters, with proceedings and a fine, and it comes to light in an inspection, when the activity licence is renewed or when the regional government asks for the records.
The second is the insurance. The policy describes what protection there is and what state it is kept in; if that cannot be backed up with paperwork, the payout gets argued over on exactly the day you need it not to be argued over.
And the third is liability, which is the one that really weighs. When something happens, what was done beforehand gets investigated, and the lack of documented maintenance turns a misfortune into the owner's liability. None of this shows while nothing happens, which is exactly the problem with this area.
