There is dust, steam and welding fume in the industrial unit. Which detector copes?
It depends which of the three rules, because each one breaks a different technology. Airborne dust dirties the chamber of an optical detector until the detector reports itself dirty. Water vapour scatters light exactly the way smoke does, so an optical detector cannot tell them apart. And welding fume is real smoke: there the problem is not the detector, it is that the process generates precisely what has to be detected.
There are three ways out. Change technology in the problem area: heat where there is steam, flame where there is welding and flammable liquids, aspirating detection with a filter where there is dust and early detection is still needed. Zone it properly, so the welding bay is a zone of its own and does not drag the whole unit with it. And programme the control panel by time of day when the activity that dirties things only happens on one shift.
What does not work is filling the unit with optical detectors and then turning their sensitivity down. That turns an expensive installation into a system that detects later than the people inside.
