My installation is older than the current regulation. Do I have to change it?
The duty to maintain it reaches you even if it is a lot older than 2017, because the RIPCI maintenance regime applies to everything that is in service. The duty to redesign it does not: what was designed under the rules in force at the time does not have to be redone because a new regulation has come out.
That changes the moment it is touched. A refurbishment, a change of use, an extension or any modification affecting fire protection means the affected part has to meet what is required today and, depending on the scope, the whole has to be reviewed. And it changes too when the system has stopped giving the service it was put in for: an installation maintained up to date that does not cover the warehouse built afterwards is complying with nothing.
The honest check is not the date of the regulation: it is whether the drawings match the building. When they do not, there is work to do, whichever regulation applies.
