How far can I run the network cable for a camera?
A hundred metres between the switch and the camera, counting the patch leads at both ends. It is not a manufacturer's recommendation: it is the limit for copper cabling under the structured cabling standards, and above that distance the link stops being reliable even if it sometimes seems to work.
To go further there are three routes. An intermediate switch, which needs power at that point and a cabinet to put it in. PoE extenders, which lengthen the run at the cost of reducing the link speed and can only be chained a limited number of times. Or optical fibre, which is what goes in when the run is genuinely long, with a converter and power at the remote end.
The other side of that decision is the usual one outdoors: two buildings joined by copper share their storms. Fibre does not conduct, and as well as solving the distance it removes the path by which a surge travels from a pole to the switch in the plant room.
