Do you also do sprinklers and hose reels?
No. We do the electronics: detection, alarm, evacuation, control panels, integration with the rest of the building and the maintenance of all of that. Sprinklers, hose reels, dry risers, hydrants, the pump set and the tank are another trade, with another authorisation and other crafts. We do not do it, and we do not subcontract it either so as to appear as though we did.
We say it at the first meeting and not halfway through the project, because how many firms you have to ask for a price and how the site programme is split depend on it. A fire quotation that does not make clear whether the water is included is the most common reason for half an installation turning up uncontracted when the work is already under way.
What we do do is say what is needed and why, and work with the suppression design in front of us. The detection and the water cross in several places, and those crossings are resolved beforehand, not on the day of commissioning.
