What is heat-sensitive cable and where is it used?

It is a cable that acts as a detector along its whole length, so it watches a line instead of a point. There are two families: the non-resettable digital type, in line with part 28 of UNE-EN 54, in which two conductors touch when the insulation reaches its temperature and the affected run has to be replaced; and the analogue or resettable type, which measures temperature along the cable and can also say at which metre the hot spot is.

It goes in where the risk runs along a line and not over an area: conveyor belts, service tunnels and cable trays, battery charging areas, rows of parking spaces, silos, paint lines, tunnels and roofs. Also where the environment is impossible for anything else, with dust, damp, corrosion or pressure washing.

Its limit is the same as its virtue: it warns by heat, so it warns when there is already a fire. Where you want to know earlier, it is combined with aspirating detection or with point detection on the ceiling, and the cable is left for the specific point that has to be watched closely.
