What analytics does a VMS come with as standard?

What usually comes separately, with its own licence or as a module, is whatever needs more processing: number plate reading, counting and occupancy, heat maps, searching by the characteristics of a person or a vehicle, facial recognition. And there is a third route that gets forgotten: the analytics that run inside the camera itself, which use no server, work with the network down and are usually enough when the problem is solved with a line and a zone.

The common limit of everything above is the same: they are rules over a field of view. They see what comes into their frame, they do not know what happened thirty seconds earlier on the camera next door, and they do not understand a situation that will not fit into a drawn rule. When what you need is an understanding of the scene and not a line, you move onto other ground, which is that of the systems built around exactly that.
