Besides maintenance, is there any compulsory inspection?
Yes, and it is different from maintenance. RIPCI requires an accredited inspection body to inspect fire protection installations at least every ten years, in the cases where there is not already a periodic inspection imposed by its own specific regulations.
Industrial premises do have one imposed, and more often: RSCIEI calls for inspection by an inspection body every five years if the intrinsic risk is low, every three if it is medium and every two if it is high. That inspection is not done by your maintenance company: it is done by a third party, and what it looks at is precisely whether the maintenance has been done and whether the installation matches its documentation.
Preparing for it is cheap and turning up unprepared is expensive. Almost everything that ends up in an adverse report —drawings that do not match, badly labelled zones, incomplete records, devices disabled with nothing written down— is sorted out beforehand with one visit.
